Are Online CPR Certifications Legit?

Absolutely! In fact, research has shown that the flexibility, accessibility, and adaptability of online learning makes online CPR training and certification programs more effective than traditional, in-class learning.

Now more than ever, healthcare professionals, educators, and employers all believe that online CPR is not only legitimate, but preferred.

What to Look for to Ensure Your Online CPR Program Is Legit

Just as not all online college courses are the same, not all online CPR certification programs are the same. When trying to determine if online CPR is legitimate or not, it’s important to look at who created the course, the quality of the course, and how widely accepted that provider’s courses are.

1) Look for Third-Party Accreditation

Third-party accreditation is a process in which experts evaluate the curriculum of the online CPR program in question and how it’s taught. If the program passes scrutiny, then it receives the stamp of approval in the form of accreditation.
For example, ProTrainings’ online CPR programs have been accredited by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Dental Association. Look to see whether the program you’re considering has been accredited and, if so, by who.

2) Look at the Provider’s Business Reputation

Your online CPR training curriculum and teaching methods are incredibly important — but so is your experience as a customer. The Better Business Bureau has been evaluating businesses’ treatment of customers and fair dealings since 1912. The BBB is a non-profit organization that exists for the sole purpose of enhancing trust in the marketplace between consumers and businesses.

The BBB aims to promote better business practices and customer advocacy by rating businesses on a scale of A+ to F in order to give consumers a transparent look at what they can expect when working with a particular business. In 2004, ProTrainings earned an A+ rating from the BBB and has maintained this score ever since. Look to see what rating, if any, the provider you’re considering has received from the Better Business Bureau.

3) Look for Research on the Online CPR Provider’s Efficacy

It’s important to do your own research on the company you’re considering getting your online CPR certification from. You want to choose a company with a strong reputation of effective CPR training. For example, ProTrainings has been in the news for a number of life-changing incidents, including…

Can You Get a Valid CPR Certification Online, According to Research?

Summary:
Over the years, a multitude of research studies have shown that online, video-based CPR training is more effective than in-class learning.

The main reasons for this are that students who use online learning tools are able to learn at their own pace, in an environment that is most conducive to their unique learning style, and are able to revisit lessons as many times as needed to absorb the information.

In recent years, almost everything has become available online in one form or another — from ordering food to earning a college degree. But is that always the best way to learn a new skill? We believe in turning to research to find the answers to important questions like these.

As early as 1995, researchers found that classroom-based CPR programs were surprisingly inadequate at teaching students CPR skills and facilitating long-term retention of what they were meant to learn.

As video-based education became more popular, researchers evaluated the efficacy of video-based CPR training. A 1998 study on self-paced learning found that “a half-hour of video self-instruction resulted in superior CPR performance compared with that in traditional trainees.”

With the emergence of the internet in the late 90s, many other online learning opportunities appeared on the market. In fact, according to the Department of Education, at least 75 percent of all undergraduate students were enrolled in at least one online-based class as of 2020.

How Covid-19 Is Transforming CPR Certification Around the World

The Shift to Online Learning is Here to Stay

When the covid-19 pandemic hit the United States in early 2020, everything changed. The way Americans lived their daily lives, ran errands, cared for their children, and worked was forever impacted. Employees were asked to stay at home and download telecommunications software while students as young as first grade age were asked to attend class in a similar fashion.

Today, the world is forever changed. Although many employers and schools around the world have reopened their facilities to resume in-person activities, many others are choosing to keep things virtual — including CPR instruction.
While covid-19 initially sparked experimentation with online learning, the remote education trend has stuck around for many reasons. Not only are online CPR training and certification programs convenient, efficient, and easily adaptable to each student’s unique learning styles, but also they are proving to be even more effective than in-person learning.
