  • Child Care Providers in Minnesota are required to have an Adult, Child, and Infant Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
  • The Minnesota Dept. of Human Services, Child Care and Early Education requires a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid for licensing. Required training should include; Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • A practical (hands-on) skills component is required by the state or by your Child Care facility to maintain employment.
  • Most employers will require a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for all ages.

Child Care Providers in Minnesota usually need a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED certification. Required training should include; Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED and First Aid with a practical (hands-on) skills component.



Delivery Method

Child Care Providers in Minnesota are required to maintain Adult, Child, Infant (Pediatric) CPR, AED and First Aid that includes a practical skills evaluation through in person or blended training process. A 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer. If you are not certain of your employer's requirement, make sure to check with them about both the training type and the required course content.

Board Statement:

Subd. 4.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
(a) Unless training has been completed within the previous two years, the director, staff persons, substitutes, and unsupervised volunteers must satisfactorily complete pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training that meets the requirements of this subdivision. Pediatric CPR training must be completed prior to having unsupervised direct contact with a child, but not to exceed the first 90 days of employment.
(b) Pediatric CPR training must be provided by an individual approved to provide pediatric CPR instruction.
(c) The pediatric CPR training must:
(1) cover CPR techniques for infants and children and the treatment of obstructed airways;
(2) include instruction, hands-on practice, and an in-person, observed skills assessment under the direct supervision of a CPR instructor; and
