  • Teachers in Virginia are required by the state to have an Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, AED and First Aid certification for initial licensure and renewal of license.
  • The Virginia Department of Education requires a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED certification. Required training should include; Adult, Child, Infant CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • A practical (hands-on) skills component is required by the state or by your local district to maintain employment.
  • Most employers will require a Lay Rescuer CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for all ages.
  • Those teaching Sports Management, Physical Education, Nutrition or Health courses may have additional requirements.
